The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the results of the Imo North Senatorial rerun and called on INEC to declare their candidate, Senator Athan Achonu winner of the poll.

The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Arinze Agbogu, who announced this yesterday, while addressing the press, however said that the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Benjamin Uwajumogu, had already scored a total of 48,921 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer, Chief Athan Achonu who grabbed 40,142 votes.

They accused the State Government, the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies of complicity in the aborted re-run election.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command has cautioned politicians in the state and their supporters to maintain the existing peace following the declaration of results of Saturday’s rerun election in Imo North Senatorial District.

The Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu told STV news in Okigwe that whoever is aggrieved over the outcome of the rerun election should employ legitimate means to seek redress.
